Situated on an 1893 homestead, the Martin Dairy Farm has evolved into a charming wedding venue spread across 30 acres of stunning landscapes, with pecan trees and rolling hills. This historic location boasts a rich heritage that spanned 125 years before its transformation into Sugar Shack Farms by the Prisk family in 2018. The journey has prioritized honoring and preserving the land, home, and history. Mr. Prisk constructed the rock arch using stones accumulated by farmers over decades. Large boulders from the farm are positioned at the base of the cross, serving as another ceremony site. The home's damage has been repaired and restored to ensure its preservation for many more years. A historic sign is being installed by the homestead, highlighting the Martin family ancestors. The venue also honors its namesake, the Sugar Shack, which is situated on Mrs. Prisk's (Smith) family property in northwest Florida.

Historical Significance

  • Established: 1893

  • Location: Martin Dairy Road, named after the family

  • Family Legacy: The Martins made their living from a dairy farm, a sawmill, pecans, vegetables, and eventually beef cattle. Some of the timber was utilized to build the Methodist Church in Milner and the farmhouse on their property.

A Community Treasure

The Prisk family will continue the land's tradition of faith and family, with plans to farm soon. The community is welcome to enjoy the land during festivals and events hosted on the farm. Many families have celebrated, and will keep celebrating, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, and other special occasions there.

Conclusion

Sugar Shack Farms serves as more than a wedding and event venue; it is a location where history, nature, and mankind unite, providing guests with an opportunity to honor the past, change the present, and build the future.
